Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 10/Verse 42

अथवा बहुनैतेन किं ज्ञातेन तवार्जुन ।

विष्टभ्याहमिदं कृत्स्नमेकांशेन स्थितो जगत् ॥१०- ४२॥


athavā bahunaitena kiṃ jñātena tavārjuna ।

viṣṭabhyāhamidaṃ kṛtsnamekāṃśena sthito jagat ॥10- 42॥

But what is this extensive knowledge to you, Arjuna? I am established supporting this entire world by one portion.



athavā (adverb) (indeclinable) = however


bahunā (masculine, instrumental, singular) = with extensive 


etena (pronoun, 3rd person, masculine, instrumental, singular) = with this  


kim (interrogative) (indeclinable) = what


jñātena (past passive participle, masculine, instrumental, singular) = with knowledge 


tava (pronoun, 2nd person, genitive, singular) = of you 


arjuna (masculine, vocative, singular) = Arjuna 


viṣṭabhyā (gerund) (indeclinable) = supporting 


aham (pronoun, 1st person, nominative, singular) = I 


idam (pronoun, 3rd person, neuter, accusative, singular) = this


kṛtsnam (neuter, accusative, singular) = the entire 


ekāṃśena (eka + aṃśena) (masculine, instrumental, singular) = by one portion 


sthitas (past tense, masculine, nominative, singular) = established  


jagat (neuter, accusative, singular) = the world
