Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 12/Verse 9

अथ चित्तं समाधातुं न शक्नोषि मयि स्थिरम् ।

अभ्यासयोगेन ततो मामिच्छाप्तुं धनंजय ॥१२- ९॥


atha cittaṃ samādhātuṃ na śaknoṣi mayi sthiram ।

abhyāsayogena tato māmicchāptuṃ dhanaṃjaya ॥12- 9॥

But if you are not able to place the mind steadily in me, then by the yoga of practice you must seek to attain me, Conqueror of Wealth. 



atha (adverb) (indeclinable) = but if


cittam (neuter, accusative, singular) = mind


samādhātum (infinitive) (indeclinable) = to place


na (adverb) (indeclinable) = not


śaknoṣi (present tense, 2nd person, singular) = you are able 


mayi (pronoun, 1st person, instrumental, singular) = in me 


sthiram (accusative used adverbially) (neuter, accusative, singular) = steadily 


abhyāsayogena (abhyāsa + yogena) (masculine, instrumental, singular) = by the yoga of practice 


tatas (adverb) (indeclinable) = then 


mām (pronoun, 1st person, accusative, singular) = me 


iccha (imperative, 2nd person, singular) = you must seek 


āptum (infinitive) (indeclinable) = to attain 


dhanaṃjaya (masculine, vocative, singular) = Conqueror of Wealth (epithet of Arjuna)
