Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 14/Verse 18

ऊर्ध्वं गच्छन्ति सत्त्वस्था मध्ये तिष्ठन्ति राजसाः ।

जघन्यगुणवृत्तिस्था अधो गच्छन्ति तामसाः ॥१४- १८॥

ūrdhvaṃ gacchanti sattvasthā madhye tiṣṭhanti rājasāḥ ।
jaghanyaguṇavṛttisthā adho gacchanti tāmasāḥ ॥14- 18॥

The sattvic go upward, the rajasic stand in the middle, the tamasic, established in the condition of the guna that is the lowest, go downwards . 


ūrdhvam (adverb) (indeclinable) = upward  

gacchanti (present tense, 3rd person, singular) = they go 

sattvasthās (masculine, nominative, plural) = the sattvic 

madhye (masculine, locative, singular) = in the middle

tiṣṭhanti (present tense, 3rd person, plural) = they stand 

rājasās (masculine, nominative, plural) = the rajasic  


jaghanyaguṇavṛttisthās (jaghanya + guṇa + vṛtti + sthās) (masculine, nominative, plural) = established in the condition guna that is the lowest

adhas (adverb) (indeclinable) = downwards

gacchanti (present tense, 3rd person, singular) = they go 

tāmasās (masculine, nominative, plural) = the tamasic
