Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 18/Verse 5

यज्ञदानतपःकर्म न त्याज्यं कार्यमेव तत् ।

यज्ञो दानं तपश्चैव पावनानि मनीषिणाम् ॥१८- ५॥

yajñadānatapaḥkarma na tyājyaṃ kāryameva tat ।


yajño dānaṃ tapaścaiva pāvanāni manīṣiṇām ॥18- 5॥


The action of sacrifice, charity, and austerity are to be done and not to be abandoned. Indeed, that sacrifice, charity, austerity are indeed the purifiers of the thoughtful. 


yajñadānatapaḥkarma (yajña + dāna + tapas + karma) (neuter, nominative, singular) = the action of sacrifice, charity, and austerity 

na (adverb) (indeclinable) = not 

tyājyam (gerundive, neuter, nominative, singular) = to be abandoned 

kāryam (gerundive, neuter, nominative, singular) = to be done 

eva (adverb) (indeclinable) = indeed

tat (pronoun, 3rd person, neuter, nominative, singular) = that 

yajñas (masculine, nominative, singular) = sacrifice 

dānam (neuter, nominative, singular) = charity 

tapas (neuter, nominative, singular) = austerity 

ca (conjunction) (indeclinable) = and

eva (adverb) (indeclinable) = indeed

pāvanāni (neuter, nominative, plural) = purifiers 

manīṣiṇām (masculine, gentive, plural) = of the thoughtful
