Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 17/Verse 12

अभिसंधाय तु फलं दम्भार्थमपि चैव यत् ।


इज्यते भरतश्रेष्ठ तं यज्ञं विद्धि राजसम् ॥१७- १२॥

abhisaṃdhāya tu phalaṃ dambhārthamapi caiva yat ।

ijyate bharataśreṣṭha taṃ yajñaṃ viddhi rājasam ॥17- 12॥

But having in mind the fruit and indeed also which is sacrificed for fraudulent aim, Best of the Bharatas, you must know that sacrifice is rajasic. 


abhisaṃdhāya (gerund) (indeclinable) =  having in mind 

tu (conjunction) (indeclinable) = but

phalam (neuter, accusative, singular) = fruit

dambhārtham (masculine, accusative, singular) = fraudulent aim 

api (adverb) (indeclinable) = also

ca (conjunction) (indeclinable) = and 

eva (adverb) (indeclinable) = indeed

yad (pronoun, 3rd person, neuter, nominative, singular) = which 


ijyate (present tense, passive, 3rd person, singular) = it is sacrificed 

bharataśreṣṭha (masculine, vocative, singular) = Best of the Bharatas 

tam (pronoun, 3rd person, masculine, accusative, singular) = that 

yajñam (masculine, accusative, singular) = sacrifice 

viddhi (present tense, 2nd person, imperative) = you must know 

rājasam (masculine, accusative, singular) = rajasic
