Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 18/Verse 35

यया स्वप्नं भयं शोकं विषादं मदमेव च ।

न विमुञ्चति दुर्मेधा धृतिः सा पार्थ तामसी ॥१८- ३५॥

yayā svapnaṃ bhayaṃ śokaṃ viṣādaṃ madameva ca ।


na vimuñcati durmedhā dhṛtiḥ sā pārtha tāmasī ॥18- 35॥

The holding by which the stupid person does not abandon sleep, fear, sorrow, depression, and indeed, pride, that is rajasic, Son of Prithā. 


yayā (pronoun, 3rd person, masculine, nominative, singular) = by which 

svapnam (masculine, accusative, singular) = sleep

bhayaṃ (neuter, accusative, singular) = fear 

śokam (masculine, accusative, singular) = sorrow 

viṣādam (masculine, accusative, singular) = depression 

madam (masculine, accusative, singular) = pride 

eva (adverb) (indeclinable) = indeed 

ca (conjunction) (indeclinable) = and

na (adverb) (indeclinable) = not 

vimuñcati (present tense, 3rd person, singular) = one abandons 

durmedhā (masculine, nominative, singular) = the stupid person 

dhṛtis (feminine, nominative, singular) = holding 

sā (pronoun, 3rd person, feminine, nominative, singular) = that 

pārtha = Son of Prithā

tāmasī (feminine, nominative, singular) = tamasic
