Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 18/Verse 34

यया तु धर्मकामार्थान्धृत्या धारयतेऽर्जुन ।


प्रसङ्गेन फलाकाङ्क्षी धृतिः सा पार्थ राजसी ॥१८- ३४॥

yayā tu dharmakāmārthāndhṛtyā dhārayate'rjuna ।

prasaṅgena phalākāṅkṣī dhṛtiḥ sā pārtha rājasī ॥18- 34॥

But by which holding desiring results one causes to hold duty, desire, and means, Arjuna, with attachment, that holding is rajasic, Son of Pritā. 


yayā (pronoun, 3rd person, feminine, instrumental, singular) = by which 

tu (conjunction) (indeclinable) = but

dharmakāmārthān (dharma + kāma + arthān) (masculine, accusative, plural) = duty, desire, and means 

dhṛtyā (feminine, instrumental, singular) = by holding 

dhārayate (present tense, causative, 3rd person, singular) = one causes to hold 

arjuna (masculine, vocative, singular) = Arjuna 


prasaṅgena (masculine, instrumental, singular) = with attachment 

phalākāṅkṣī (masculine, nominative, singular) = desiring results 

dhṛtis (feminine, nominative, singular) = holding 

sā (feminine, nominative, singular) = that 

pārtha (masculine, vocative, singular) = Son of Prithā

rājasī (feminine, nominative, singular) = rajasic
