Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 17/Verse 22

अदेशकाले यद्दानमपात्रेभ्यश्च दीयते ।

असत्कृतमवज्ञातं तत्तामसमुदाहृतम् ॥१७- २२॥

adeśakāle yaddānamapātrebhyaśca dīyate ।


asatkṛtamavajñātaṃ tattāmasamudāhṛtam ॥17- 22॥

That gift which is given in the wrong place and time to the unworthy, without paying respect, and with contempt. That is declared tamasic.


adeśakāle (masculine, locative, singular) = in the wrong place and time 

yad (pronoun, 3rd person, masculine, nominative, singular) = which 

dānam (neuter, accusative, singular)= gift 

apātrebhyas (neuter, dative, plural) = to the unworthy 

ca (conjunction) (indeclinable) = and 

dīyate (present tense, passive, 3rd person, singular) = it is given

asatkṛtam (adverb) (indeclinable) = without paying respect 

avajñātam (past passive participle, neuter, nominative, singular) = with contempt  

tad (pronoun, 3rd person, neuter, nominative, singular) = that 

tāmasam (neuter, nominative, singular) = tamasic 

udāhṛtam (past passive participle, neuter, nominative, singular) = declared
