Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 17/Verse 2

श्रीभगवानुवाच

त्रिविधा भवति श्रद्धा देहिनां सा स्वभावजा ।



सात्त्विकी राजसी चैव तामसी चेति तां शृणु ॥१७- २॥

śrībhagavānuvāca


trividhā bhavati śraddhā dehināṃ sā svabhāvajā ।


sāttvikī rājasī caiva tāmasī ceti tāṃ śṛṇu ॥17- 2॥


The Blessed Lord said: The faith of the embodied is of three kinds that is born of one's natural disposition: sattvic, rajasic, and tamasic. This you must hear. 



śrībhagavān (masculine, nominative, singular) = the Blessed Lord


uvāca (past tense, 3rd person, singular) = said 


trividhā (feminine, nominative, sngular) = of three kinds 


bhavati (present tense, 3rd person, singular) = is 


śraddhā (feminine, nominative, singular) = faith  


dehinām (masculine, genitive, plural) = of the embodied 


sā (feminine, nominative, singular) = that 


svabhāvajā (feminine, nominative, singular) = born of one's natural disposition 



sāttvikī (feminine, nominative, singular) = sattvic 

rājasī (feminine, nominative, singular) = rajasic 


ca (conjunction) (indeclinable) = and 


eva (adverb) (indeclinable) = indeed


tāmasī (feminine, nominative, singular) = tamasic 


ca (conjunction) (indeclinable) = and 


iti (punctuation) (indeclinable)  = (close quotes)


tām (feminine, accusative, singular) = this 


śṛṇu (imperative, 2nd person, singular) = you must hear
