Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 17/Verse 17

श्रद्धया परया तप्तं तपस्तत्त्रिविधं नरैः ।


अफलाकाङ्क्षिभिर्युक्तैः सात्त्विकं परिचक्षते ॥१७- १७॥

śraddhayā parayā taptaṃ tapastattrividhaṃ naraiḥ ।

aphalākāṅkṣibhiryuktaiḥ sāttvikaṃ paricakṣate ॥17- 17॥

With the highest faith that threefold practiced austerity by the steadfast humans who do not desire fruit are regarded as sattvic.


śraddhayā (feminine, instrumental, singular) = by faith 

parayā (feminine, instrumental, singular) = by the highest 

taptam (past passive participle, neuter, nominative, singular) = practiced 

tapas (neuter, nominative, singular) = austerity 

tad (pronoun, 3rd person, neuter, nominative, singular) = that 

trividham (neuter, nominative, singular) =  threefold 

narais (masculine, instrumental, plural) = by humans 


aphalākāṅkṣibhis (masculine, instrumental, plural) = by those who do not desire fruit 

yuktais (masculine, instrumental, plural) = by the steadfast 

sāttvikam (masculine, accusative, singular) = sattvic 

paricakṣate (present tense, 3rd person, plural) = they regard as
