Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 18/Verse 39

यदग्रे चानुबन्धे च सुखं मोहनमात्मनः ।

निद्रालस्यप्रमादोत्थं तत्तामसमुदाहृतम् ॥१८- ३९॥

yadagre cānubandhe ca sukhaṃ mohanamātmanaḥ ।


nidrālasyapramādotthaṃ tattāmasamudāhṛtam ॥18- 39॥

That which is happiness in the beginning and deluding in consequence, that is declared tamasic arising from sleepiness, indolence, and negligence of the self. 


yad (pronoun, 3rd person, neuter, nominative, singular) = which 

agre (neuter, locative, singular) = in the beginning 

ca (conjunction) (indeclinable) = and  

anubandhe (masculine, locative, singular) = in consequence 

ca (conjunction) (indeclinable) = and  

sukhaṃ (neuter, nominative, singular) = happiness 

mohanam (neuter, nominative, singular) = deluding 

ātmanas (masculine, genitive, singular) = of the self

nidrālasyapramādotthaṃ (nidrā + alasya + pramāda + utthaṃ) (masculine, accusative, singular) = arising from sleepiness, indolence, and negligence 

tad (pronoun, 3rd person, masculine, nominative, singular) = that

tāmasam (neuter, nominative, singular) = tamasic 

udāhṛtam (past passive participle, neuter, nominative, singular) = declared
