Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 16/Verse 17

आत्मसंभाविताः स्तब्धा धनमानमदान्विताः ।


यजन्ते नामयज्ञैस्ते दम्भेनाविधिपूर्वकम् ॥१६- १७॥

ātmasaṃbhāvitāḥ stabdhā dhanamānamadānvitāḥ ।

yajante nāmayajñaiste dambhenāvidhipūrvakam ॥16- 17॥

Self-centered, stubborn, accompanied by wealth, pride, [and] intoxication. With sacrifices only in name they sacrifice with hypocrisy [and] not according to Vedic rules. 


ātmasaṃbhāvitās (ātma + saṃbhāvitās) (past passive participle, masculine, nominative, plural) = self-centered  

stabdhās (past passive participle, masculine, nominative, plural) = stubborn 

dhanamānamadānvitās (dhana + māna + mada + anvitās) (masculine, nominative, plural) = accompanied by wealth, pride, [and] intoxication 

yajante (present tense, 3rd person, plural) = they sacrifice 

nāmayajñais (masculine, instrumental, plural) = with sacrifices only in name

te (pronoun, masculine, nominative, plural) = they 

dambhena (masculine, instrumental, singular) = with hypocrisy 

avidhipūrvakam (adverb) (indeclinable) = not according to Vedic rules
