Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 6/Verse 5

उद्धरेदात्मनात्मानं नात्मानमवसादयेत् ।


आत्मैव ह्यात्मनो बन्धुरात्मैव रिपुरात्मनः ॥६- ५॥

uddharedātmanātmānaṃ nātmānamavasādayet ।
ātmaiva hyātmano bandhurātmaiva ripurātmanaḥ ॥6- 5॥

By the self one should lift up the self. Verily indeed, the self should not ruin the self. The self is a friend of the self, [and] indeed, the enemy of the self.  


uddharet (opative, 3rd person, singular) = one should lift up

ātmanā (masculine, instrumental, singular) = by the self

ātmānam (masculine, accusative, singular) = the self  

na (adverb) (indeclinable) = not

ātmānam (masculine, accusative, singular) = the self

avasādayet (optative, 3rd person, singular) = one should ruin

ātmā (masculine, nominative, singular) = the self 

eva (adverb) (indeclinable) = indeed  

hi (adverb) (indeclinable) = verily 

ātmanas (masculine, genitive, singular) = of the self 

bandhus (masculine, nominative, singular) = friend

ātmā (masculine, nominative, singular) = the self 

eva (adverb) (indeclinable) = indeed

ripus (masculine, nominative, singular) = enemy 

ātmanas (masculine, genitive, singular) = of the self
