Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 5/Verse 23

शक्नोतीहैव यः सोढुं प्राक्शरीरविमोक्षणात् ।

कामक्रोधोद्भवं वेगं स युक्तः स सुखी नरः ॥५- २३॥


śaknotīhaiva yaḥ soḍhuṃ prākśarīravimokṣaṇāt ।

kāmakrodhodbhavaṃ vegaṃ sa yuktaḥ sa sukhī naraḥ ॥5- 23॥

Indeed, in this world, that one who is able to endure the agitation coming from anger and desire before the liberation of the body, that yoked one is a happy person.



śaknoti (present tense, 3rd person, singular) = one is able


iha (adverb) (indeclinable) = in this world


eva (adverb) (indeclinable) = indeed


yas (pronoun, 3rd person, masculine, nominative, singular) = who


soḍhuṃ (infinitive) (indeclinable) = to endure


prākśarīravimokṣaṇāt (prāk + śarīra + vimokṣaṇāt) (compound) (masculine, ablative, singular) = before liberation of the body  


kāmakrodhodbhavam (kāma + krodhod + bhavam) (compound) (masculine, accusative, singular) = coming from anger and desire  


vegam (masculine, accusative, singular) = agitation  


sas (pronoun, 3rd person, nominative, singular) = that one


yuktas (past passive participle, masculine, nominative, singular) = yoked  


sas (pronoun, 3rd person, nominative, singular) = that one 


sukhī (adjective, masculine, nominative, singular) = happy 


naras (masculine, nominative, singular) = person
